Online Music Theory exams in November

If you have candidates taking online Music Theory exams on 10 November, make sure you have sent them their login details and the online checklist link included in the same email as the log in details. They will need these well before the exam to: read the online checklist, download the exam software, run through the pre-exam set up and log in to test the practice questions. On the day of the exam the practice questions will not be available via the software but can also be found here under ‘More free resources’ . Candidates should open the software 15-30 minutes before the exam start time to run through the pre-exam set up. The live test will then be available at the exam start time. If you are a parent and do not have your child’s login details yet, contact the person who booked the exam.

Welcome to Violin Practice Partner

Violin Practice Partner is a simple way to make practising pieces for your ABRSM exam more musical, enjoyable and fun. It is useful for anyone learning or teaching pieces from the ABRSM Violin Exam Pieces 2016–2019 at Grades 1–7.

What is Violin Practice Partner?

Violin Practice PartnerIt’s a practice tool which provides access to enhanced recordings of Violin Exam Pieces. You can use the app to practise with the piano accompaniment or violin part in isolation, in addition to the duo ensemble recording. Using Violin Practice Partner also helps slow practice, while retaining the musicality of the recorded performance. It's as if you’re practising with your own personal desk partner!

Violin Practice Partner is available for iOS and Android™ devices in both smartphone and tablet versions, from iTunes and Google Play. The app comes with one example piece from Grade 1 of Violin Exam Pieces 2016–2019, with in-app purchases available for individual pieces or selections for each Grade.

How can I use Violin Practice Partner?

Violin Practice Partner lets you play along with real musicians’ performances, exactly as recorded or at a reduced tempo. The app will help you to:

  • Become familiar with the accompaniment and understand how the solo line fits with the piano part for more secure performances
  • Slow down or speed up the music to a tempo that suits you, for slow careful practice.
  • Listen closely to the violin in isolation to hear every detail of the expert performance.
  • Repeat tricky passages by setting loops around them.

You can also:

  • Personalise the app – choose from nine different virtual partners to practise with!
